Cuba Workshop

The Rhythm and Pulse of Camaguey Cuba with Elizabeth Opalenik

Pam Taylor PhotographyIn February 2018 I traveled to Camaguey, Cuba as part of a workshop offered by the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, and led by renown photographer/artist Elizabeth Opalenik. It was a perfect transition from my times as a photojournalist and my new artistic photography, I loved once again walking the streets, speaking Spanish, now in this country I had never been to. It felt like coming home.

And, I totally soaked up the teachings of Elizabeth Opalenik, one of the most creative women I ever met. We had dancers come to great locations, such as old houses of Camaguey, a lovely colonial town. Opalenik encouraged us to try motion blur, use infraRed, pay attention to shadows as design, use found objects in new ways. I began to see the world in a different way.
