Dancing the Crone

Dancing the Crone by Pamela York Taylor

Undaunted by pandemic isolation, photographer Pamela Taylor turned to expressive self-portraits.  Examining her first “selfie” ever, she embraced the wrinkled Crone facing her. Thus, began her discovery of ancient crone goddess archetypes and myths.

BOOK REVIEWS

Through a poetic dreamscape of image and word, Pamela York Taylor honors and embraces the crone with wisdom, life experience, and yes, her joy and vulnerability. Sparked by the isolation of the pandemic, Taylor turns inward exploring this stage of life through myth, history, and her own personal experiences. The result is a powerful journey inspiring to both women who have reached cronehood and those who will soon enter it.

~ Carolyn Males, Editor, Writer, and Artist

Dancing the Crone is a work of deep art that is engaging, as well as visually breathtaking. Pamela Taylor has brought the ART, the writing, the story, the poetry, the honesty, and the beauty all together in the most perfect cohesive way. I’m following her journey with great respect and awe. Every matriarch and crone should have a copy of this book.

Mythology and magic are where the inner and outer worlds meet. In her book Dancing the Crone, Pamela Taylor guides us to that momentous intersection through magical images and ancient stories. Page by page she reveals the wonders of age, assuring us that rather than the fearful end of a journey; aging can open a door to a new dimension.

It has been such an honor and a pleasure to work with Pamela Taylor on her dreams these past many years. I am 74 years old, and I so appreciate her perspectives on the process of aging and her extensive research on Goddesses. I love the term “Crone” and value her use of this archetype as an honorific. Dancing the Crone is a beautiful treasure for every woman and especially those over 50 years old.

Dancing The Crone is an artful merging of the ageless and the contemporary. Pamela weaves on a warp of still- relevant archetypical myths, using the threads of her pandemic challenges as an art photographer.“

~ Monique van Gent, Artist, Graphic Designer

Pam, you have me wanting to shout from the rooftops with these: You have completely WOW’ed me. It is so well-thought out. Using the vintage lenses really helps bring the whole thing together. I have so many favorites that I’m not even sure where to begin. There are some images where I see you as this powerful and beautiful Goddess like the one where you are holding the torch. It’s amazing. I feel so inspired looking at these. The one where you’re holding a circular object is absolutely fantastic. It looks as if it’s straight out of a vintage historical photography book, It is such a powerful piece and could easily stand on its own.

~ Sharon Covert, Fine Art Photographer, Instructor, LensBaby Ambassador (comments on the initial images which I created for her course Self-Expressive Portraits)

It is my hope that all who have the privilege of holding this book in their hands receive the many blessings it offers.
